Algarve Temperature and Climate Review
The Algarve Climate is one of the warmest and sunniest in Europe with over 3000 hours of sunshine per year. The Algarve is a fairly dry place with virtually no rain in the summer months and about a week of rainy days during the winter months. The Algarve has several cities, towns and villages. It also includes some islands and islets. The region is also the home of the Ria Formosa lagoon, a nature reserve of over 170 square kilometres and a stopping place for hundreds of different birds.
The Temperature in Carvoeiro in January and February ranges between 9 and 16 degrees celcius and in June and July average temperatures are within the range of 18 and 28 degrees celcius. There are an average of 7, 6, 8 and 5 wet days per month in January thru to April with no wet days in July or August.
In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve. At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean.
The Praia da Luz temperature in November and December is between 8 and 19 degrees celcius wheras in July and August average temperatures increse to between 17 and 29 degrees. Since 1960, the city has embraced tourism, which has become its most important economic activity. It has beautiful beaches, good climate, the sea, a scenic coastline, and historical patrimony. It also has plenty of cultural and night-life entertainment venues. Many local traditions are celebrated, ranging from architecture to gastronomy and handicrafts.
